At times, it seems like Gary Gensler enjoys playing a cartoon villain version of himself, taunting crypto and taking the industry's backlash in return.
He's back at it today, wishing a "happy 15th anniversary to Satoshi’s famous white paper that started crypto."
The SEC chair added Halloween spice to his comments on X, asking, "if Satoshi Nakamoto went as Satoshi Nakamoto for Halloween, would we be able to tell?"
Crypto Twitter took the bait. One of the many replies came from X user by the name of @crypto_rand and said, "if you went as Mr Burns, would we be able to tell?"
The continued back and forth between Gensler and the crypto community seems almost playful, except the Chair's antagonism has very real consequences to businesses and users.
He ends the post recommending crypto companies that are "tricking" investors, to start "treating" them to "compliance with the securities laws."
Hilarious.
